Among all the three subjects, a student could most easily score in Physics with formula oriented questions dominating in the paper. Chemistry was mostly based on NCERT but contained a few tricky elements, whereas Mathematics was the longest and most challenging section. With an accuracy level of 45-60 questions, well performing aspirants can reach a high percentile, possibly even 99 percentile for the best performers.

JEE Mains 2026 April Shift – Overall Analysis

On the whole, the April session of JEE Mains 2026 was of average difficulty. It was not a simple paper to a large extent, still it didn’t reach the level of extreme toughness. According to the view of the majority of students, the exam was so well balanced that when one section got a student’s score, another one took more time and effort.

Besides the exam, many students claimed that even though at first the paper was kind of a bit difficult, their preparation allowed them to answer lots of questions.

Attempt Analysis & Expected Percentile

Student feedback allowed to clearly identify the attempt pattern:

Average attempt: 40–45 questions

Good attempt: 45–55 questions

Top performers: 50+ questions

Those candidates who can answer more than 50 questions will be very close to their 99 percentile. The majority of questions in this subject targeted the students’ knowledge of the underlying concepts and their ability to apply formulas.

If a student understood the concepts, the questions could be solved very fast since they were not calculation-heavy. The problem was not the level of difficulty but selecting the right formula.

The most important topics were Optics, Mechanics, Electrostatics and Current Electricity. Among these, Optics had a little more weightage than others.

Chemistry – NCERT-Based with Moderate Difficulty

Chemistry was NCERT based and also moderate in level of difficulty.
